Honor and Outrage: AdceteRIO 2016
Just as the sun set on the games of the XXXI Olympiad in Brazil, so too has AdceteRIO 2016 drawn to a triumphant conclusion. Twelve teams all competed in what was an office Olympics for the ages. Adcetera Olympians showed off their mental toughness in an Olympic Trivia contest (how familiar are you with Cristo Redentor’s dimensions?). They put their knowledge of aerodynamics on display in the Paper Airplane Toss. They even channeled their inner Gambit in a “Minute to Win It”-inspired card toss. No matter the event, the competition was fierce, the performances were legendary, and the trash talk was incendiary.
But much like the for-real Olympics, AdceteRIO was not without controversy, though it involved significantly less bathroom vandalism. Ambiguous Hula Hoop Combat rules, questionable bowling scoring, and the most cutthroat, prison rules game of musical chairs you’ve ever seen have left many of us wondering what might have been for those left out of medal contention.
Even amid the whispers of scandal and allegations of foul play, AdceteRIO came to a magnificent end at our Closing Ceremonies. Team In’Sync won overall gold while the Sons of Adcetera took home the awards for team spirit and best team theme. The victors are now a part of history, forever enshrined in Olympic glory. The losers have their sights set on a new goal — the 2018 Adcetera Winter Games.
