Guts, Glory, and Gold: Adding More Shine to Our Collection

Fortunately for us, spring comes early in Houston. The signs? It starts with a gust of decapitated crepe myrtles and of boiled crawfish attacking your nasal cavity. Then the football withdrawals kick in, and out of the blue, you look up to find formerly attractive coworkers now reduced to puffy-eyed, Claritin-inhaling humanoids. It’s that wonderful time of the year when diets are destroyed, resolutions become recommendations, and anyone who has made it this far collectively throws all caution, willpower, and wilting salads to the wind in exchange for the best damn BBQ on the planet (available for a limited time at World’s Champion Bar-B-Que, which kicks off the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo). But for advertising agencies, spring means something more. Spring is show time; or, more appropriately, showoff time. It’s the American Advertising Awards (AAAs), formally known as the ADDYs.

Adcetera was pleasantly surprised at the end of last year’s ceremony, receiving an above and beyond Judges Award of Achievement for Craftsmanship. Could we possibly be up for another this year? After gracefully and gratefully accepting our four gold trophies and one silver, Adcetera was once again called and, this time, asked to come up to the stage. We had won “Best of Show” for print. Our talented team of designers and production specialists had done what many claimed was impossible: we made land rigs sexy. Our NOV Land Rig Systems “Driving the Industry Forward” brochure drove not only NOV’s business further, but it drove our print capabilities to another level. It put NOV in the spotlight and their rigs in the limelight — stylistically showing the land rigs as simplified, beautified wireframes. The uncoated stock completed the look — helping the piece feel both raw and polished. Simple but standout. The right look for NOV and the right content for their customers.

But print is not all we do well, and the AAA awards reflected that. Our 2016 trophy collection included 3D and 2D, B2B and B2C, interactive experiences and eye-catching executions. We do it all, and we do it all well. Look for more awards in more categories later this year. As it is, we’re going to have to move around some things in the Trophy Room (yes, we have an official trophy room) to make room for our latest additions.
