Our Facebook Page Has Gone To The Dogs.
If there’s one thing we all know about pets, it’s that they can’t type. Strangely, that doesn’t seem to stop them from being on Facebook. If you judge popularity purely on the number of photo-tags, then my own cat, Wizard Poland, is much more popular than I am. (Of course, he doesn’t bite or scratch as often as I do.)
People just love to take pictures of their pets. They love social networking. And they love Christmas. That’s why, for our first-ever Facebook contest, we decided to hit the trifecta with our Naughty or Nice Pet Photo Contest. Cute little baby puppies. Awwww-inspiring kitties. And cutthroat competition! Throw in some amazing prizes from a great bunch of sponsors, and you’ve got a Facebook initiative that had it all.
Lots of new friends followed our Facebook page, posting great pictures of their pets caught in “Naughty” or “Nice” moments. The competition soon heated up with lots of great entries. Entries like Potty Kitty, Dust Bunny, and Feral Possum. There were even a few wild cards—chickens and goats made an appearance toward the end of the contest.
When the votes were in and the contest was over, it was pretty clear who the top dogs were. Kim Ash’s puppy took the Naughty award, and Mary Bunevich’s pup took the Nice award. Each won a $250 Petco gift card—to be spent on obedience lessons and treats, no doubt. Lots of other pets made it into the top bracket, winning prizes from Rover Oaks, Haute Pets, The Best Little Dog House in Texas, Demi’s Dog House, and Jackson’s Place Bakery.
We made so many new friends through this contest—and we had a lot of fun. The only way it could’ve been more fun? Maybe if one little cat named Wizard Poland had gotten more than five votes. But I guess popularity isn’t everything.
